• Question: how do come up with your design for studies and experiments?

      Very good question! It really depends. Sometimes, my ideas come from reading other papers and thinking “but if they made this small change, then we could answer this other question!” and designing a study based on that, where it is quite similar to something that’s already been done but answers a different question. But sometimes, ideas come completely out of the blue when I’m having a shower or on the train! Most of the time, whatever the initial idea is changes a lot once I talk it over with my collaborators and come to a final idea.

      I read lots of other papers and see what they have done and whether it worked. I also sometimes come up with my own stuff!
