I’m working on a number of projects at the moment and one of the most recent is to do with parent math anxiety and how this impacts on early math learning. We are measuring parent self reported anxiety and observing them doing math related tasks with their kids. During the observations we are using technology to assess their heart rate, sweat and movement as a measure of stress, to see how this compares with non math related tasks such as story reading. From this we are hoping to be able to demonstrate what the barriers are to supporting children, and help parents to overcome them.
