• Question: if you never got payed would you still be a scientist

      Hi! Good question Ryan but not actually an easy one to answer! I think for me I’d say possibly, yes but the reality is it would be very difficult financially to never ever be paid, especially if you are doing something you love doing. I’m not sure it would be easy to sustain full time, or even part time.

      There are many voluntary roles within education for example, and research assistant positions that don’t pay especially well but the flipside is that those positions bring with them different life experiences and things you can talk about at interview – so they could well lead on to other jobs or training.
