Oooh, I don’t think I’m qualified to answer that question! I guess the psychologist’s answer would be to tap into WHY people want to have children and try to “fix” it that way? But the desire to procreate is evolutionarily one of the most important things for survival of your genes, so I don’t know how easy that would be!
This is a really interesting question. I agree with Priya that I am not qualified to give a very good answer!! I think perhaps trying to give everyone across the world, especially in poorer countries, education and opportunities so that they can make their own decisions about having children.
It might be controversial, but maybe some kind of mandatory “test” to assess if people have the resources to have children, in terms of time, finances, intelligence/common sense, personality, emotional stability? It’s not the most psychological answer, but it could be something?
