• Question: how confident do you feel about being against the other scientists?

      I don’t feel very confident or very un-confident, I’m just going to have fun and be myself and see where that takes me 🙂

      The other scientists all sound so interesting, but all quite different too! So I feel confident that we will all answer the questions well (everyone seems to have expertise in various domains!). Like Priya said, I don’t feel confident or un-confident about going against them, I’m here to chat to everyone and have fun!

      I feel slightly under-confident, as a lot of my colleagues have their PhDs already and maybe fit “better” in this zone? They focus on work with young children, whereas mine is more with teenagers and people in their early 20s. But like Priya and Beatrice, I’m just glad of the opportunity and hope to have fun and inspire some of you about Psychology 😀

      I think we are a great bunch of Psychologists. The IAS team have done a perfect job at showcasing people at different career stages and with different focus to their passion in psychology. Whilst we are all in this zone for an interest in Childhood, a number of us will step beyond this. My research samples have been across the lifespan from around age 5yrs to my oldest participant (to date) being 86.

      The Ed Psychs here will work with a range of students in different school settings, Priya’s PhD work is focused on early developmental milestones and abilities (i hope i’m correct in this), and Jess is focused on the impact of a key transitional stage of development in the teenage year with some really important neural development happening at this stage.

      So overall i think as a bunch we bring our own strengths and perspectives.

      I don’t really feel like I’m in a competition – I’m having a great time learning about what all the other psychologists are doing – there is such a variety among the six of us.

      So interesting to read the other comments.. I would agree that we do all seem to complement each other and are working at different ages and stages of people’s lives. Our research interests all vary too. I am sorry for my late response! Clearly I am not treating this as a competition and more like a fun challenge 🙂
